Of course, spills and accidents on your rugs and carpets will occur. If If you do experience such an occurrence, it is EXTREMELY IMPORTANT to deal with the issue as quickly as possible to prevent staining.

You will need some white, clean absorbent cloth or tissue, and the four solutions listed below.

Please also ensure the colour in your carpet does not run by testing all solutions in a small inconspicuous area before application.

• Dry Cleaning Solution – Methylated spirit or isopropyl alcohol.
• Detergent Solution – One teaspoonful of gentle detergent for washing woollens to 0.75 litres of warm water
• Detergent and Vinegar Solution – Add one tablespoon of white vinegar to the detergent solution.
• Ammonia Solution – One teaspoonful of branded household ammonia, to one cup of warm water.

• Alcohol, Tea and Coffee, Liquid Foods and Urine

Blot any surplus spillage. Use detergent vinegar solution. Work from the outer edge of the stain towards the centre, using a small amount, blotting regularly with a cloth. Apply rinse procedure below.

• Chocolate, Sweets, Blood, Glue, Ice Cream, Milk, Soft Drinks and Vomit

Scrape up any excess using a blunt knife. Use a detergent solution starting at the outer edge. Blot dry. Follow up with Ammonia Solution. Blot dry. Apply rinse procedure below.

• Solids, Fats, Tar, Chewing Gum. Oil, Ointment and Shoe Polish

Scrape up excess with a blunt knife. Use a dry cleaning solution followed by Detergent and Vinegar Solution. Blot dry. Apply rinse procedure below.

• Unknown stains.

Use a dry cleaning solvent followed by clean lukewarm water. Blot dry. Should further treatment be required, try either Detergent or the Detergent and Vinegar Solution. Blot dry. Apply the rinse procedure below.

Rinse Procedure

Mix one part white vinegar with four parts water. Add the liquid to a spray bottle and apply to the stained area. Blot the now dampened area (do not scrub) to remove excess moisture. Apply white kitchen towel to the affected area and add a weight directly on top to assist the residue to absorb into the towels. Allow to stand overnight and repeat if required.
